I know that some people wonder why the universe seems to delight in producing unmatched socks when doing the wash, but I, personally, have never had that problem. No, I have a much more difficult question: why does my underwear almost always turn inside-out when I do the laundry?
Over the years, I have consistently noticed that 2/3 to 3/4 of the underwear I pull out of the dryer have to be turned right-side out as I fold them to put them away. For a long time, I just assumed I was putting them in the hamper inside-out. Occasionally, I would make an effort to put them in the hamper right-way out, but when I emptied the dryer the large majority of them were still wrong-side out. I chalked this up to just not paying enough attention when I threw them in the hamper.
I just bought 8 new pairs of underwear and washed them this weekend. I took them straight out of the package, unfolded them, and tossed these right-side out items in the washing machine and then the dryer. When I took them out, ALL FREAKING EIGHT OF THEM WERE INSIDE-OUT!
I admit to not understanding how the universe accomplishes this. How does it manage to turn the right-side ones inside-out but never back the other way? Perhaps it’s just best if some questions in life are not looked at too closely.

I was debating an Amazon Prime boycott until I happened upon its new documentary about Kay Graham, the publisher of the Washington Post during the Pentagon Papers and Watergate eras. Holy Sh!t. I don’t know how Jeff Bezos let that film through as it puts him in a terrible light.
The parallels between Graham/Nixon and Bezos/Trump are uncanny. Watch it if and while you can!
Now that the backyard landscaping is done, I have started to add decorations and color. More to come!
My manicurist asked me if I wanted to try “cat’s eye” nail polish, and I went for it. We didn’t do the traditional cat’s eye, but I’m very happy with the results.
“Cat eye nail polish is a specialty gel nail polish that contains magnetic particles. When used in combination with a special magnet, the molecules within the polish line up and create unique patterns and designs on your nails. The pattern created is typically a striking diagonal slit or streak across each nail, which mimics the distinct angular shape of a cat’s pupils.”
The world would be a lot safer place if upon seeing the light turn yellow, we all asked ourselves “Can I stop without throwing the dog through the windshield?” instead of “Can I make it through on a little bit of yellow?”
Europe, in the next few years, is going to require car instrumentation panels to have more actual physical buttons and knobs instead of touchscreen ones if the car is to receive the highest safety rating. You generally don’t have to take your eyes off the road to turn a knob.
I heard a song the other day where part of the lyric was “driving down the PCH at 120mph”. My own contribution to making cars safer would be to change the speedometer so that any speed above 90 or so just said “too fast!”
Here, for example, is the speedometer in my Hyundai Santa Fe Sport:
Why in the world do I need a speedometer that goes up to 160????
I have my doubts that even on a downhill slope the car could actually go that fast. And I know for sure that I would not want to be in it if it did.
It would make much more sense to have the speedometer going from 0 to 90.

A friend introduced me to the French police drama “Astrid”. It’s currently available on PBS Passport. It involves a detective who teams up with a person, Astrid, from Criminal Records to solve crimes. Astrid is “on the spectrum” and brings her unique point of view to the crime scenes. It’s a terrific program and if you have access to it, I can’t recommend it highly enough.
Unlike many American programs I’ve watched lately, it has not turned dark and murky as the seasons go on. After 4 seasons, it is still about the crimes and the growing friendship between the two women. Watch it if you can!
